The Elements of a Marketable Intern

Good interns do a good job. Great interns are offered a job. Make the transition from good to great with the following traits. We don’t want you to be just good. We want you to be OUTSTANDING.

Open-Minded: A great intern is willing to learn about everything, even if all the duties of the internship are not related to their major. They remain open to new ideas and suggestions and are willing to take advice from other staff members.

Unique: A great intern knows their talents and strengths and fully takes advantage of those to be memorable. A great intern knows that an internship is like a test drive, and if they operate well, there is a good chance that company will drive them off the lot.

Timely: A great intern knows that time is precious, and your time of arrival not only speaks volumes about your character, but your respect for the time of others.

Self-Improving: Not resistant to constructive criticism, a great intern will not let it fall on deaf ears. A great intern is willing to correct and address what they are told to work on, so that they can perform to the best of their ability.

Trustworthy: A great intern is trustworthy and reliable. A great intern holds the reputation for meeting deadlines at all times.

Adventurous: A great intern is willing and able to emerge from their comfort zone and meet new people and approach new talents and ideas.

Neutral: A great intern does not take sides in the office and seeks to understand everyone’s point of view.

Distinguished talents: A great intern posses clear marketable skills in areas such as writing, technology, and communication.

Initiative: The intern is never stagnant. A great intern knows that there is always something that needs to be done and there is always something he or she can do.

Nicely Dressed: A great intern dresses professionally, and understands the difference between business casual and casual. They leave the jeans and gym shoes at home and they know that appearance says a lot about them.

Great attitude: A great intern smiles  and respectfully speaks to everyone, and is overall, a joy to work with.
